Student Choice with CBE of the Month Jennifer Liang

We’d like to introduce you to March’s Certified BrainPOP Educator of the Month, Jennifer Liang! Jennifer became a CBE in fall 2015 and is an Instructional Technology Specialist for a small private school for students with autism spectrum disorders and other high functioning special needs. With 14 years of teaching experience, Jennifer also teaches 8th grade Georgia History.

What inspired you to go into education?
Honestly, I got into it because I had some bad teachers and I knew I could do better than they did. I spent a lot of time in school either bored out of my mind or so frustrated I was in tears. I know that would usually turn people off of school, but instead I was determined to prove that a better experience was possible.

What are you most passionate about when it comes to education, technology, and your approaches to teaching?
My biggest focus

Caitlyn Jenner considering running for governor of California as Gavin Newsom faces recall: reports

Caitlyn Jenner is thinking about making a run to unseat Gov. Gavin Newsom as he faces a possible recall election, reports said on Tuesday.

The vocal Republican and former reality TV star, 71, is said to be “actively exploring” a run for governor of California, according to Axios, which cited three sources close to the situation.

Per the outlet, the 1976 Olympian and Wheaties box athlete is being assisted in her consideration by longtime GOP fundraiser and fixer Caroline Wren – whom Jenner supposedly met through her work with the American Unity Fund, a GOP nonprofit focused on LGBTQ issues.

Meanwhile, hours later a Deadline report emerged also reporting that the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” alum was, in fact, considering an attempt to unseat the incumbent governor of two years.

Engineering and Design Process Background Information for Teachers, Parents, and Caregivers

This page provides information to support educators and families in teaching K-3 students about engineering and design process. It is designed to complement the Engineering and Design Process topic page on BrainPOP Jr.

Remind children that engineering is the area of science and technology that explores designing, building, and improving things to solve problems. Explain that engineers often collaborate, or work together, to solve a range of different problems from inventing tools that allow us to gather information about our world to building homes and planning cities, and much more! Lead a discussion about contributions made by the engineering and design community.

Review that engineers follow a process for solving problems. First they find and understand a problem. Invite children to think of a problem. What do people struggle with every day? What do people do or use that can be improved? Encourage children to think of a way to

BrainPOP Jr. Tips for Teachers

Want to maximize your students’ BrainPOP Jr. Learning experience? Try these tips!

Screen the movie in advance. Watching the movie before sharing it with your students will prepare you to pose questions to the class. You may determine that your students would benefit from a graphic organizer to help them take notes while watching the movie.

Use the pause button. Whenever a new question appears on the notebook during a movie, the pause button turns red. This signals an opportunity to pause the movie and have students activate prior knowledge, make predictions and inferences, and summarize what has happened. Pausing a movie allows you to assess your students’ comprehension and foster an active viewing experience.

Watch the movie full screen. If you are projecting the movie for the whole class, we recommend playing the movie in full screen. The Full Screen button is on the left side of the window.
