- The Supreme Court of Appeal has dismissed a “peculiar” appeal by the Helen Suzman Foundation over the renewal of former IPID head Robert McBride’s contract.
- The court found the HSF’s contention, that it was up to the incumbent to decide whether his contract was extended or terminated, to be “absurd”.
- McBride has moved on to head the Foreign Branch of the State Security Agency.
“This is a peculiar appeal,” wrote judges of the Supreme Court of Appeal in dismissing an application by the Helen Suzman Foundation (HSF) over former IPID head Robert McBride’s contract.
The judges also found the application by the foundation regarding the reinstatement of McBride to be “illogical”.
The judgment was handed down on Wednesday, long after McBride had moved on from his job as head of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate, and the to-and-fro over who can decide to extend
